After weeks of working under strict COVID-19 protocols, the team at Queen Mother Sports Centre are proud to announce that works to improve the main pool are now complete and that the Main pool will reopen for lane swimming from Thursday 3 September 2020, along with the learner and diving pools.

During lockdown, we took the decision to use the nationwide closure of leisure centres and gyms as an opportunity to carry out essential maintenance and improvement works at our sites across Westminster, including Queen Mother Sports Centre.

To ensure the safety of our staff and colleagues, and in line with government guidance, a series of strict safety measures were implemented to facilitate the safe completion of the works. No doubt, this had an impact on the time taken to carry out the work, which was compounded by the fact that many of our suppliers and contractors had been furloughed or were closed.

Although progress was slower than usual the team were able to complete numerous maintenance and renewal projects across the sites, however, the main pool at Queen Mother Sports Centre required additional work.

After the pool was drained, full remodelling of the major pool circulation pipework was completed to allow for each of the pools to have wholly independent filtration systems. The new system means that the pool will be much easier to clean, improving hygiene, and will remove any chance of cross-contamination from one pool to another.

Now that the improvement works have been completed, Everyone Active are looking forward to welcoming back customers for lane swimming in the main pool from September with a view to restart swimming lessons in due course.

In line with the strict Covid-19 health & safety protocols and the government’s track & trace system, swimming must be booked in advance through the Everyone Active website or app. Bookings will be open from Monday 31 August and customers should familiarise themselves with the new restrictions and safety measures as much as possible in advance of attending.
