The School Games Level 2 Dance Competition took place on Friday the 3rd of February. The competition was supported by Exercise Move Dance Partnership and hosted by Paddington Academy.
School were allowed to enter Key Stage 3 (YRS 7,8,9) and KS4/mixed (YRS 7-11) teams. The minimum number of performers per team was 4 and the maximum 30. Routines had be original and between 2 ½ and 4 minutes in length. Teams could use any dance style.
Judge on the day were Jamie Neale (Choreographer/Director), Chanel Williams (Creative Director at Unique Dynamites) and Jon Hearn from the Westminster Sports Unit. The judges scored the routines on the following four categories totalling 100 points:
1) Concept and Soundtrack (10+5 points)
2) Choreography and Floor Use (20 + 15 marks)
3) Performance Skill (20 points)
4) Overall Impact (30 points)
The results were as follows:
1st Place KS4: Paddington Academy (dance theme of human behaviour)
1st Place KS3: Paddington Academy (dance theme of ‘Deeds Not Words’ Suffragette movement)
2nd Place KS3: Grey Coats Hospital (dance theme of community)
3rd Place KS3: Westminster Academy (dance theme of friendship)
The winners from the KS3 and KS4 dance competitions will go on to represent Westminster at the School Games Level 3 competition taking place on the 8th of March at the Copper Box.
