Gifted and Talented

Gifted and Talented

In partnership with the London Sport’s Trust, support is available to young people who attend school in Westminster and have been identified as talented sporting individuals, to develop their sporting skills.

On the scheme young athletes train together to improve technique and knowledge across all sports incorporating numerous aspects of motor skill development.

 Primary

Pupils in years 5 and 6 can be referred to the term long Primary Gifted and Talented training sessions at a Little Venice Sports Centre.

New athletes are selected each term before being referred to on-going training opportunities.

Secondary

Pupils in years 7, 8, 9 and 10 are selected to attend the 8-10-week Secondary Gifted and Talented training sessions hosted by their school.

What can the Gifted and Talented programme offer?

• Athlete development assessments;

• Referral to sport clubs for on-going training

• Referral to the Champions of the Future programme (where applicable).

 How to get involved

Primary school pupils can express their interest to their School P.E. coordinator who can refer eligible athletes to Westminster Sports Unit on 020 7641 2012, email sport@westminster.gov.uk.

Secondary school pupils can express their interest to their Head of P.E who will then select eligible athletes to train in a Gifted and Talented school squad.

Again, the school can express their interest to Westminster Sports Unit.
