Being active is essential for a healthier, happier life, yet not everyone in Westminster enjoys the same chances to participate. The ActiveWestminster Strategy Delivery Plan 2026 outlines the council’s key commitments and actions, aiming to make physical activity and wellbeing an everyday reality for all residents.

The importance of the Delivery Plan

Opportunities to be active are not equally distributed across Westminster. By removing barriers and fostering inclusive spaces, the action plan ensures that everyone, regardless of age, background or ability, can enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle. These are the key focus areas:

Turning strategic priorities into measurable actions

The plan turns our ambitions into practical steps that are tracked and evaluated. Reporting ensures transparency and shared accountability during delivery.

Coordinating activity across council services, partners and communities

Delivery relies on joined-up working between council departments, local organisations, health partners, schools, businesses and residents.

Targeting inequalities in access to physical activity

Efforts are focused on reaching those who face barriers to participation, ensuring inclusive opportunities for all.

Delivering real change in neighbourhoods

Bringing tangible improvements at community level, making physical activity accessible right where people live.

This approach demonstrates Westminster’s commitment to moving from ambition to real impact, putting health and fairness at the heart of its strategy.

Move for Life! – Activity that fits everyday life

The Move for Life! Framework encourages residents to incorporate movement into their daily routines. Everyday activities such as walking, cycling, dancing, stretching, gardening, playing, or simply moving more all contribute meaningfully to wellbeing.

Our commitments aim to support children, young people, adults and older adults to be more active in ways that work for them.

The Move for Life! Framework focuses on three main themes:

Active Lives

Helping people build movement into everyday routines.

Active Neighbourhoods

Creating welcoming, local spaces for activity.

Active City

Improving parks, facilities and routes across Westminster.

Delivering Together

The Strategy Delivery Plan is realised through a council-wide approach, with collaboration between Westminster City Council services, community organisations, health partners, schools, businesses, and residents. An active Westminster is a fairer Westminster; by working together, the plan aims to remove barriers and support people of all ages and abilities to move more and lead happier, healthier lives.
