On Saturday 25th April 2026, 30 athletes from Westminster took part in the 2026 Mini London Marathon Championships. A 2.6km race for boys and girls with age categories ranging from U12s right up to U18s.
This event has been running for over 30 years and offers young athletes a unique opportunity to represent their borough and race on the final mile or 2.6km of the official London Marathon course. Participants will experience the unforgettable thrill of finishing on The Mall, just moments from Buckingham Palace.
The athletes that competed for Westminster can represent the borough if they either live, study or were born in Westminster. They then have the opportunity to qualify for the championships from January to March.
At this years race, with a new U12s age category our U12s Girls team came 6th overall out of 27 London boroughs competing. Sabrina Coppola Johansen also ran in our U18 girls with a time of 08:36 minutes putting her 4th overall!
This was my second year as a team manager for the Westminster Team at the Mini London Marathon, and I can honestly say I had a smile on my face all weekend. From meeting the young athletes for the first time—handing out t-shirts and bib numbers, guiding them to the warm-up area, and seeing them off at the start—to watching them cross the finish line beaming with pride, every moment is incredibly rewarding. The Championships bring together children and young people from across Westminster, giving them the chance to compete in their home borough, connect with fellow athletes, build confidence, stay active, and most importantly, enjoy every second of the experience.
Details for next year Mini Marathon Championships will be posted on our website at the end of this year / early next year. The qualifying period will be from January 2027 – March 2027.
